The Data Standards Committee provides institutional oversight for the governance of University of Detroit Mercy's data across all institutional information systems. The committee establishes and maintains standards that promote the consistent definition, collection, management, protection, and use of institutional data to ensure accuracy, integrity, transparency, security, and compliance with applicable legal, regulatory, and institutional requirements.

The Data Standards Manual documents the University's standards and expectations for the stewardship, access, and use of institutional data. These standards apply to all individuals who create, maintain, access, or use University data across institutional systems. Individual divisions or departments may establish supplemental procedures to address operational needs, provided they remain consistent with and do not supersede the University's data standards.

The Data Standards Committee is comprised of representatives from across the University who serve as institutional data stewards and subject matter experts. Through a collaborative, consensus-based governance process, the committee develops and maintains data standards, establishes common definitions and business practices, and promotes the consistent interpretation and responsible use of institutional data. By aligning institutional practices with industry best practices and the University's strategic and operational needs, the committee supports reliable reporting, informed decision-making, accreditation, and institutional accountability.
